A Gifted Man 1.5 “In Case of Loss of Control” Review

Submitted by on October 29, 2011 No Comment

The title of this episode is ‘In Case of Loss of Control’. It starts with a boy who came in for something that was seemingly rudimentary. He was vomiting and had a case of diarrhea after taking too much candy. Michael thought he just needed some fluids to stabilize him. He wasn’t getting better and they had to now look into the case before they realized that it was food poisoning. E Coli had caused so much damage to his kidney that it had to be replaced.

A Gifted Man Season 1 Episode 5

At that point Michael was unaware that the boy’s mother was an illegal immigrant who was about to be deported and he risked loosing his license treating the child. But he goes on with it with encouragement from Anna and he persuades the government official that they should delay her deportation until she could donate a kidney to her son and the transplant is carried out. It was a success.

He then interviewed a new Doctor with the nick name of E-Mo and after he offers him the job he is immediately involved in one of Michael patients in the hospital. The teenager was suffering from TIA. E-Mo quickly deduces that she is reacting from the contraceptives she is secretly taking. But as this was thought to have been resolved successful and unexpected twist came in the form of the girl’s ex-boyfriend who was still having issue with her leaving him. He shot her just outside the hospital. Michael and Kate had to rush to save the girl in an impromptu treatment.

Michael then meets with Kate at the clinic and asks her out. That was when he found out that she was married.

As for E-Mo, whether he’ll be convinced to chipping in free hours at the clinic is another thing that fans will be looking forward to. This episode wanted to look like that of last week at the initial stage but every thing changed and became totally different. We can’ say for sure now whether Michael’s interest in the clinic will wane after this revelation but we know he has stipulated hours that he is somewhat bound to fulfill at the clinic. How they’ll react to each other next week will be interesting to say the least.

Michael and Zeke also have a good chemistry.

Anton also got some good screen time. His character is such that he seems to find it easy to flow with those around him. This can’t be said of Christina though who seems to have a problem relating with people. Besides, her character still seems adrift and searching for anchor. Nothing much is seen or known of her son and if she starts getting more involved in the clinic it might help give her character some degree of relevance in the show.
