Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a brilliant surgeon experiences life-changing wisdom, when his deceased ex-wife, Anna (Jennifer Ehle), his love ,mysteriously appears to him and explains to him the life “hereafter”. Michael is a charismatic character who lives a luxurious life filled with materialistic pleasures, which come from his wealthy and powerful patients. His life takes a sudden blow, when his idealistic ex-wife who was a free-clinic doctor comes back into his life as an illusion and asks him to go to her clinic to keep it running.

There he meets Autumn (Afton Williamson), who continues Anna’s work selflessly. Michael is touched by this and his atiitudes change for everyone.Christina (Julie Benz), Michael’s ‘different’ sister , who is a single mom to Milo (Liam Aiken), her teenaged son, realises the ‘return’ of Anna in Michael’s life, and is thrilled, as Michael was a better person with Anna. But Michael’s sudden behaviorial change is a shocker for his assisstant Rita (Margo Martindale).
